NL (Breda), °1984 – Lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium.

Kim Kroes is an abstract painter who uses color and material as her playground.

Her recent line paintings can be seen as color studies. On MDF panels, she applies paint line by line, each one subtly differing in hue or tone from the last. Where the lines meet, a slight ridge forms – a delicate elevation of paint. This textured surface allows light in the room to interact with the painting in ever-changing ways.

Some of her works are titled after specific places and moments in time. In these pieces, the lines become a kind of landscape – though the ground itself is absent, only the sky above is rendered. The sky serves as a reflection of that particular location, as well as that specific moment.
