Blue Lagoon is part of a visual dialogue between Alina Cristea and Ine Vlassaks, who together formed Doi Collective. In 2016, they created several series of works, their Conversation Pieces. In these series, they took turns sending each other a work every four days, with each new work serving as a response to the previous one. They encouraged the use of different media as a way of expressing their ideas.

But just as in a conversation you can build on what your interlocutor says, or repeat it, you can also interrupt it abruptly and start talking about something completely different. This is how Blue Lagoon came into being. Ine had to come up with a response to Alina’s latest work, but the conversation already seemed to have reached its conclusion. Nearby, on her desk, was a bottle of nail polish in a colour called Blue Lagoon.
