The form of this work originates from an object used on construction sites as a counterweight, helping to keep temporary structures balanced and securely in place. Here, the object is removed from this strictly functional context and approached anew as a sculptural form.
By reconstructing and formally simplifying the object, the focus shifts from function to mass, volume and proportion. Its utilitarian logic remains recognisable, but is no longer fully explained. What normally serves merely a supporting role within a larger technical system appears here as an autonomous object.
This shift creates a tension between function and abstraction, between industrial origin and sculptural presence. Concepts such as weight, stability and balance remain embedded in the work, but acquire a more physical and spatial significance. The object thus becomes more than simply a bearer of weight.
